The Piedmont region is famous not only for its wine but also for the truffles.

 

 

 

 

There are two varieties; white and black truffles. Whites are very expensive, and 50% of all white truffles are sold to Japan. The rest are sold all over the world. Both of these mushrooms  grow under the top soil level. There are special people and dogs, who are doing the truffle hunting.

During October and November  season there are a lot of Festivals celebrating  truffles! During these festivals you have a unique opportunity to taste and smell truffles.

This season is the perfect time to taste them, and the best way to do it is to come to Italy.

The city of Alba celebrates their precious White Truffle with a “Gourmet Food Fair” every weekend from October 1st to November 7 in Palazzo Tartufo.

You can sample assortment of delicacies, made with and without truffles. Local producers are eager to present their gourmet cheese, candy, pasta, salami, artisan breads, and many other yummy foods. In the Wine Pavilion there is the world famous Piedmont’s wine , and is one of the most popular presentation is the “Truffle Hunter Stand” which is the choices of truffles offered for sale by the Truffle Hunters themselves.  Will they be judged the very best for the highest quality, the size or the how beautiful they are?
